Our Moss Journey
We started Highland Moss by making moss poles on our living room floor. Now we supply fresh Scottish moss to designers, landscapers, and show gardens across the UK. Here’s how we grew.
(2020) Pam and craig start with moss poles
Our moss story began during lockdown with one simple moss pole Pam made for her Monstera. Craig loved how it looked and how quickly it encouraged bigger, healthier growth. We found a sphagnum supplier, started making poles late into the night, and built Highland Moss from our wee flat in Aberdeen. By the end of summer, we made the leap to run the business full time.

(2021) we find our first moss site

We discovered a lush site near Cuminestown and reached out to the landowner to ask permission to harvest responsibly while the woodland was being managed. That first agreement shaped how we work today. We only harvest where we have permission, and we focus on managed woodland sites where moss would otherwise be disturbed or lost during forestry operations.
(2023) The caley brothers trust us with their first RHS garden
Lorraine and Jody Caley got in touch after hearing how much moss can elevate a show build. We supplied around 12m² of carpet moss for The Mush Room, covering the whole stand. They took home a Gold medal, and they have supported us ever since. We are always excited to see what we build together next.

From Aberdeen to the biggest stages

From show gardens to creative brand builds, we now supply moss for projects across the UK. In 2025 we supported multiple RHS Chelsea Flower Show builds, alongside work for major events and design teams. We also supplied moss to the designers of Barbours “Tartan” concept at London Fashion Week, a top secret Government project and so many other stunning gardens all over the country. If you are planning something special, we would love to help you get the right moss, in the right quantity, at the right time.
