We handpick our gorgeous Sphagnum moss from our exclusive sites in the North of Scotland. In these locations there are forestry operations, so we carefully pick our moss before these areas are disturbed by the machinery.
We also spread our picking around our sites so as not to overpick any specific area.
We have Sphagnum moss in either our ‘classic’ green/brown or natural stunning pink varieties.
- Make your own moss pole, we recommend about 250g per 30cm of pole you want to make.
- Use in your substrate mixes – for example, mix it with sand to make the perfect carnivorous plant soil.
- Use as a layer in your terrarium as a natural alternative to mesh above the drainage layer.
- Ideal for propagation – especially ‘string’ plants like string of hearts, string of pearls etc
You can see an example of it in the photos and in our YouTube moss pole installation guide here
Please note that as this is natural moss there will be some variances in colour.
The moss looks wonderful when paired with one of our green or pink moss poles.
Fresh moss is also super useful for propagation – see the photos for an example where the moss helped my variegated string of hearts cuttings produce roots. We also have a video on IGTV here

**Q: How much Sphagnum moss do I need to create a moss pole for my climbing plants?**
A: For making a moss pole, we recommend using approximately 250g of moss for every 30cm of pole length. This ensures adequate coverage and support for your climbing plants.
**Q: Can I use this moss for propagating my string of hearts and other similar plants?**
A: Absolutely! This moss is ideal for propagation, especially for ‘string’ plants like string of hearts and string of pearls. It provides excellent moisture retention and aeration, which are crucial for encouraging root growth in cuttings.
**Q: Is the harvesting of your Sphagnum moss sustainable?**
A: Yes, we ensure sustainability by handpicking our moss from areas in Northern Scotland scheduled for forestry operations, thus rescuing it before disturbance. We also carefully rotate our harvesting sites to prevent overpicking and preserve natural habitats.
☀️ Light
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
Fresh Premium Sphagnum Moss In Pink thrives in medium light conditions. It doesn’t require direct sunlight but appreciates a bit of indirect light. A spot near a window with filtered light is ideal, ensuring it doesn’t receive harsh afternoon sun which can dry it out too quickly.
💧 Water
💧💧▫️ (Medium)
This moss likes to stay damp, but not waterlogged. Water it when the top feels slightly dry to the touch. Be cautious of overwatering, as this can lead to decay. Using rainwater or distilled water can prevent mineral build-up and keep your moss healthy.
🌡️ Temperature
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
Sphagnum Moss prefers average room temperatures between 15°C to 25°C. It’s hardy against cooler temperatures but protecting it from sudden temperature drops and frost is crucial to avoid damage.
💦 Humidity
💦💦💦 (High)
High humidity is crucial for keeping your Sphagnum Moss vibrant and fresh. It naturally thrives in moist environments, so maintaining high humidity will help it stay lush and prevent it from drying out. Consider placing it in naturally humid areas like kitchens or bathrooms if possible.
🪴 Repotting (or substrate info for moss/creatures)
This moss can be used as a top layer in pots to increase moisture retention for plants or on its own in a terrarium setup. If you’re using it to make a moss pole, remember to refresh the moss as needed to keep it lush and supportive for climbing plants.
🐾 Pet Friendliness
Our Fresh Premium Sphagnum Moss in Pink is pet-friendly. It’s safe for cats and dogs, so you don’t need to worry about it harming your furry friends.
✅🪴 Recommended Locations at Home
Place your Sphagnum Moss in areas like bathrooms, kitchens, or near humidifiers where the air tends to be moister. Avoid locations directly next to heaters or air conditioners as these can dry out the moss quickly.
🌬️🪴 Air Purifying
While primarily used for its beauty and practical applications, Sphagnum Moss does not significantly purify the air. However, it does contribute to a healthier plant environment by maintaining moisture and air quality around the plants it supports.
✨ Other Plant Features
Our stunning pink Sphagnum Moss isn’t just functional; it’s visually appealing too! It adds a touch of whimsy and color to terrariums, moss poles, and any plant setup. Plus, it’s sustainably harvested, ensuring that you’re purchasing a product that’s good for both your home and the environment.
