This beautiful kit created by Caley Brothers, RHS Flower Show Gold Medallist 2023 where they presented their gourmet mushrooms surrounded by Highland Moss fresh moss!  Now are proud to provide mushroom growing kits to our customers.

DIY Mushroom kits are suitable for beginners, all instructions are provided and all the rest you need to start your mushroom adventure.

The dowel kit are suitable for outdoor where you can grow your crop on hardwood logs in your garden, patio or balcony. Ideal for mushrooms censers and as a teaching tool for children and adults. Watching them growing is not only fun but also very satisfying. Match your outdoor growing mushrooms with our fresh moss, recreating woods on your doorstep!

 

The kit includes

  • 30 x inoculated timber dowels inside a sterilized plastic grow bag with filter patch
  • soy wax sponge applicator
  • easy to follow growing instructions
  • recyclable gift box

How to use

Using the dowel method, introduce the mushroom mycelium into the body of freshly felled timber. Keep the log away from direct sun and strong wind. Water during the dry spells to keep slightly moist. You should see the first mushrooms within 9-12 months. Once fruiting you will be able to harvest fresh mushrooms for approximately 3 years.

What type of log should I use for the kit and how do I prepare it?
For the best results, use hardwood logs like oak, beech, or maple. Ensure the log is freshly felled, as older wood might contain competing fungi that can hinder growth. The log should be clean and free from moulds and pesticides.
Can I grow these mushrooms indoors, or are they strictly for outdoor use?
The kit is designed for outdoor use to mimic natural conditions. However, if you have a cool, moist, and well-ventilated area indoors, you can try growing them there, but outdoor environments typically yield better results.
How sustainable is this mushroom growing kit?
The kit promotes sustainability by using biodegradable components like soy wax and recyclable materials in its packaging. Growing your own mushrooms also reduces the carbon footprint associated with purchasing store-bought varieties that need to be transported.
