Rare And Unusual Plants

Although the Cissus discolour is commonly named the “Begonia Vine,” the plant isn’t related to begonias. Despite its begonia-like, beautiful, eye-catching leaves and shared nickname, it’s part of the grape family, Vitaceae. This family connection makes it a relative to the grapevines we’re more familiar with, even though the plant’s primary appeal is its ornamental foliage rather than any fruit.

You will receive 10 fresh-cut unrooted wet sticks (stem with node without leaves).

We recommend propagating it in sphagnum moss. Keep in high humidity and a warm +21-degree spot.

Please be aware that propagation is not always successful, we are happy to provide as much advice and support as possible during the propagation journey but the success rate depends on many factors which are out of our control.

This gorgeous vine plant grows nice and tall when you let it climb up a pole or looks great in a hanging basket, our mother plant is over 1.5 metres! Stunning leaves with deep purple veins and backs.

The leaves are dark green with purple and silver colours.

How should I propagate the Cissus Discolor cuttings for the best chance of success?
Propagate the cuttings in sphagnum moss, ensuring they are kept in a warm environment with temperatures above 21 degrees Celsius and high humidity. Regularly mist the moss to maintain moisture without saturating it completely.
Can the Cissus Discolor thrive in terrarium environments?
Yes, the Cissus Discolor can be a good addition to terrariums due to its need for high humidity. However, ensure the terrarium is spacious enough to accommodate its growth and climbing nature.
What are the light requirements for these cuttings once they start to grow?
Once the cuttings begin to develop, they should be placed in medium light conditions, avoiding direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves but ensuring enough light to promote growth.

☀️ Light

☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Cissus Discolor thrives in medium light conditions. It enjoys bright, indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight might scorch its stunning leaves, so a spot with filtered light is ideal.

💧 Water

💧💧▫️ (Medium)
Water your Cissus Discolor when the top inch of the sphagnum moss feels dry to the touch. It’s important not to let the moss dry out completely but also be wary of overwatering.

🌡️ Temperature

🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
Cissus Discolor prefers warm environments with temperatures around 21°C or higher. Avoid placing it near drafts or cold windows, especially in colder months.

💦 Humidity

💦💦💦 (High)
High humidity is key to successful propagation and growth of your Cissus Discolor. Consider using a humidity tray or a humidifier to maintain optimal moisture levels in the air.

🪴 Substrate

For propagating your Cissus Discolor cuttings, sphagnum moss is recommended due to its moisture retention properties and support for root growth. Ensure the moss is moist but not waterlogged.

🐾 Pet Friendliness

Cissus Discolor is non-toxic to pets. However, as with any plant, it’s best to keep it out of reach to avoid any accidental nibbles.

✅🪴 Recommended Locations at Home

This plant is perfect for high-humidity areas like kitchens or bathrooms. Its climbing nature makes it a great fit for spaces where it can grow vertically, such as near a trellis or a moss pole.

🌬️🪴 Air Purifying

While primarily grown for its ornamental leaves, Cissus Discolor also acts as an air purifier, helping to improve the air quality in your home.

✨ Other Plant Features

With its eye-catching foliage showcasing purple and silver colors, Cissus Discolor adds a touch of exotic flair to any space. Its ability to climb or trail makes it versatile for different types of displays.
