Euphorbia Trigona, commonly known as the African milk tree, Abyssinian euphorbia cathedral cactus is a beautiful flowering plant from Central Africa. This slow-growing succulent can reach almost 2m in height.

This beautiful and easy-to-care plant is also called Royal Red due to its very stems and leaves in colours from bright magenta to flushed red.

The plant is around 70cm tall and in a terracotta planter.

Due to size, the plant is available only for local collection and local delivery.

Not Plant Friendly

How often should I water my Euphorbia Trigona?
Water the plant thoroughly once the topsoil feels dry to the touch, typically every 1-2 weeks. Reduce watering in the winter to prevent root rot.
Can the Euphorbia Trigona thrive in low light conditions?
This plant prefers full to medium light, ideally near a window with indirect sunlight. It may not thrive in low light conditions and could lose its vivid colouration.
Is the Euphorbia Trigona suitable for beginners?
Yes, it is considered an easy-care plant that’s well-suited for beginners. Its main requirements are correct light conditions and careful watering, making it manageable for those new to plant care.

☀️ Light

☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)

The Euphorbia Trigona thrives in bright, indirect light but can also adapt to medium light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. A spot near a window with filtered light is ideal.

💧 Water

💧▫️▫️ (Low)

This succulent requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce watering further to prevent root rot. Overwatering can be detrimental to its health.

🌡️ Temperature

🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)

Euphorbia Trigona prefers average room temperatures from 18°C to 24°C. It can tolerate a range of temperatures but should be protected from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

💦 Humidity

💦▫️▫️ (Low)

Low humidity levels are sufficient for this plant, making it a perfect fit for typical home environments. It does not require any extra humidity adjustments.

🪴 Repotting

This plant generally prefers to be slightly root-bound, so repotting every 2-3 years is adequate. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix to ensure optimal growth.

🐾 Pet Friendliness

Not Plant Friendly

It is important to note that the sap of Euphorbia Trigona is toxic if ingested and can irritate the skin, so keep it away from pets and children.

✅🪴 Recommended Locations at Home

Place your African Milk Tree in well-lit living rooms, studies, or any space that receives ample light. It’s a stunning architectural plant that adds a touch of drama to any room.

🌬️🪴 Air Purifying

While primarily known for its striking appearance, Euphorbia Trigona also helps purify the air, making it not just beautiful but also beneficial.

✨ Other Plant Features

Often referred to as Royal Red, its vibrant red-tinted edges make it an extraordinary addition to any plant collection. Its slow growth and easy-care nature make it ideal for both novice and experienced plant enthusiasts.
