Please remember that the plant is living and changing all the time. We always provide healthy and the best quality plants but they may be in different stages of living and growing. Pictures represent our actual stock.
How to look after Stephania
The plant goes into dormancy once a year around winter time, when leaves start turning yellow you can decrease watering. When the plant won’t have any leaves left move it into a darker and colder spot.
After the dormancy ”wakes up” the plant: soaks the caudex in lukewarm water for 24-48h, then move into the soil.
Light
Caudex like this plant can get sunburnt, so please keep it somewhere sunny but never in direct full sunlight.
Water
It is easy to overwater this plant, so let the soil almost completely dry out before watering. In Winter the plant will enter dormancy so resist watering it more than once a month!
Humidity
Give the plant an occasional mist and try to keep humidity over 60%.
The plant is toxic to pets.
- How do I manage the dormancy period for my Stephania Erecta?
- Reduce watering as the leaves turn yellow and cease completely when the plant loses its leaves. Store it in a cooler, darker place until the dormancy period ends. After dormancy, soak the caudex in lukewarm water for 24-48 hours before replanting in soil.
- What are the best lighting conditions for the Stephania Erecta?
- Position it in a sunny spot but protect it from direct sunlight to prevent sunburn. Suitable light conditions are crucial for maintaining the health and aesthetics of the plant.
- Is the Stephania Erecta suitable for homes with pets?
- This plant is toxic to pets, so it’s important to place it out of reach if you have curious animals around the home. Consider a high shelf or a room that pets cannot access.
