How to look after Stephania
The plant goes into dormancy once a year around winter time, when leaves start turning yellow you can decrease watering. When the plant won’t have any leaves left move it into a darker and colder spot.
After the dormancy ”wakes up” the plant: soaks the caudex in lukewarm water for 24-48h, then move into the soil.
Light
Caudex like this plant can get sunburnt, so please keep it somewhere sunny but never in direct full sunlight.
Water
It is easy to overwater this plant, so let the soil almost completely dry out before watering. In Winter the plant will enter dormancy so resist watering it more than once a month!
Humidity
Give the plant an occasional mist and try to keep humidity over 60%.
The plant is toxic to pets.
- How should I care for the plant during its dormancy period?
- Reduce watering as the leaves start to yellow and cease entirely once the plant is leafless. Store it in a cooler, darker location until the dormancy period ends.
- What light conditions are ideal for this plant?
- Position it in a well-lit area but protect it from direct sunlight to prevent sunburn. Ideal lighting includes indirect or filtered light.
- Is the Stephania Erecta suitable for beginners and how often should it be watered?
- This plant is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for beginners. Water only when the soil has almost completely dried out, generally less frequently than other houseplants, especially during its dormancy in winter.
☀️ Light
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Stephania Erecta Caudex thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid placing it under the harsh midday sun as the caudex can get sunburnt. A spot near a window with filtered light is ideal to keep your plant happy and healthy.
💧 Water
💧▫️▫️ (Low)
This plant is susceptible to overwatering. Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. During its dormancy in winter, reduce watering to once a month or less to prevent root rot.
🌡️ Temperature
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
Stephania Erecta prefers typical indoor temperatures, ideally between 18°C to 24°C. Keep it away from draughty areas and sudden temperature changes which could stress the plant.
💦 Humidity
💦💦▫️ (Moderate)
This plant enjoys a bit of humidity. Aim to maintain indoor humidity levels above 60%. Occasional misting will help meet its needs, especially during dry, winter months.
🪴 Repotting
The Stephania Erecta doesn’t need frequent repotting. Consider repotting every 2-3 years or when you see the roots outgrowing the pot. Use a well-draining soil mix designed for succulents or create your own with equal parts potting soil, coarse sand, and perlite.
🐾 Pet Friendliness
Take note that the Stephania Erecta is toxic to pets. It’s best to keep this plant out of reach of curious cats and dogs to prevent any accidental ingestion.

Very happy with the product and the service, thanks 😊
Thank you so much for holding back the delivery due to it clashing with the funeral of my dear mother in law, it was truly appreciated. My wife was also taken aback by your thoughtfulness by including a lovely bouquet of dried flowers and card with kind words. The flowers will always remind us of Elaine and sit pride of place on the sideboard in our dining room. You are truthfully some of the very best people we have dealt with, online and on the phone.
