How to look after Stephania
The plant goes into dormancy once a year around winter time, when leaves start turning yellow you can decrease watering. When the plant won’t have any leaves left move it into a darker and colder spot.
After the dormancy ”wake up” the plant by soaking the caudex in lukewarm water for 24-48h, then move into the soil.
Light
Caudices like this plant can get sunburnt, so please keep it somewhere sunny but never in direct full sunlight.

Humidity
Give the plant an occasional mist and try to keep humidity over 60%.
The plant is toxic to pets.

🌱 Care Guide for Stephania Erecta
Welcome to your new plant friend, Stephania Erecta, a unique and striking addition to any indoor garden. Here’s how to ensure it thrives in your care:
☀️ Light
Emoji Scale: ☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
Stephania enjoys a light-filled spot but is sensitive to direct sunlight, which can cause sunburn to its caudex. A location with bright, indirect light is perfect, such as near a north-facing window or a shaded spot in a south-facing room.
💧 Water
Emoji Scale: 💧▫️▫️ (Low)
This plant dislikes soggy soil! Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. When in doubt, it’s better to underwater than overwater. During its dormancy in winter, reduce watering to once a month or less.
🌡️ Temperature
Emoji Scale: 🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
Stephania is comfortable in typical indoor temperatures, ideally between 18°C to 24°C. Keep it away from draughty areas and sudden temperature changes.
💦 Humidity
Emoji Scale: 💦💦▫️ (Moderate)
This plant enjoys a bit of humidity. Regular misting helps, especially during the heating season. Aim to keep indoor humidity above 60% for optimal growth.
🪴 Repotting
Stephania Erecta doesn’t require frequent repotting. Consider repotting every 2-3 years to refresh the soil. Use a well-draining potting mix suitable for succulents or make your own with equal parts of potting soil, coarse sand, and perlite.
🐾 Pet Friendliness
Important: Stephania Erecta is toxic to pets. Keep it out of reach from curious cats and dogs to prevent any accidental nibbling.
✅🪴 Recommended Locations at Home
Due to its light and humidity needs, ideal spots include well-lit bathrooms, kitchens, or near east or north-facing windows. Ensure it’s a spot where pets can’t reach!
🌬️🪴 Air Purifying
While not specifically known for air-purifying abilities, adding any plant to your home helps improve air quality by increasing oxygen levels.
