This pink Piper Crocatum (similar to Sylvaticum vine) is a true beauty from the subtropical rainforests of Himalayan. This unusual-looking climber will thrive on a moss pole and is also suitable for terrariums and vivariums.
Easy to care and slow growing tropical houseplants with stunning pink-silvery leaves. Foliage in shape is similar to some varieries of philodendron, including golden pothos. Under leaf is in dark burgundy colour, which reminds us the leaves on begonia maculata or cissus discolour.
You may notice white or black beads underneath the plant, it is a natural process called exudate, you can read about it in this article.
- What type of light does the Pink Piper Crocatum Vine require?
- This plant thrives in medium light conditions. It’s best placed in a spot with bright, indirect sunlight to avoid scorching its delicate leaves.
- Can I use a moss pole for this plant, and how does it benefit?
- Yes, using a moss pole is ideal for this climber as it mimics its natural subtropical habitat. The moss pole supports the vine’s growth upwards, encouraging larger leaf development and providing essential humidity.
- What are the white or black beads I sometimes see under the leaves?
- These beads are a natural secretion known as exudate, common in some tropical plants. It’s harmless and indicates that your plant is metabolically active. For more details, you can read our article on plant exudate.
☀️ Light
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Pink Piper Crocatum Vine thrives in medium light conditions. It prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves, but a little morning or late afternoon sun is beneficial. Perfect for east or west-facing windows.
💧 Water
💧💧▫️ (Medium)
This vine likes consistent moisture but doesn’t appreciate soggy soil. Water it when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in the winter months when plant growth naturally slows down.
🌡️ Temperature
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
The Pink Piper Crocatum enjoys average room temperatures, from about 18°C to 24°C. Avoid sudden temperature drops and cold drafts, as these can cause leaf damage.
💦 Humidity
💦💦💦 (High)
Native to subtropical rainforests, this plant loves high humidity. Aim for 60% or higher. Regular misting, a pebble tray, or a humidifier can help achieve and maintain these levels, especially during dry winter months.
🪴 Repotting
Being a slow grower, the Pink Piper Crocatum doesn’t need frequent repotting. Consider repotting every 2-3 years or when you see roots growing through the drainage holes. Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent waterlogging.
🐾 Pet Friendliness
This plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for pet owners. However, always supervise pets as they can still cause damage to the plant or vice versa.
✅🪴 Recommended Locations at Home
Due to its love for humidity, the bathroom is a great spot for your Pink Piper Crocatum, provided it has a window that offers bright, indirect light. Otherwise, it can also enhance spaces like kitchens or well-lit living rooms.
