Rhipsalis Cassutha also known as Mistletoe cactus is another variety of popular and easy-to-care Rhipsalis plants which will bring jungle vibes to your home or office.
Rhipsalis is a highly interesting genus of plants that is surprisingly part of the cactus family and is the only cactus in the family that grows outside of North and South America. There are approximately 35 to 60 species that make up this genus of epiphytic (grows on trees) and lithophytic (grows on rocks) plants that can be found in the rainforest of Central and South America, remote jungles of Africa and Asia, and a few islands throughout the Indian Ocean. This genus has been one of the most successful members of the family and has spread itself further than any cacti has gone before!

While in the same family as cacti this plant is very different. Often the way to take care of these plants is not the same as how you would expect to look after a regular dessert cactus. While most species of cacti are known to be covered in needles and prefer to live in dry and arid environments, Rhipsalis is quite the opposite and would struggle to survive in the same conditions due to its lack of needles and ability to tolerate the glaring sun. These differences have put Rhipsalis into its own category of cactus often referred to as the jungle cacti.
This stunning plant is more of a trailing wonder, in its natural habitat, it produces narrow thread-like stems that wrap and twist around trees stretching out up to 30 feet long, producing gorgeous displays of red, yellow, orange or white flowers that eventually turn into berries. While not impossible for it to flower as a houseplant it is highly unlikely to be able to recreate its natural conditions well enough to encourage it to flower but nonetheless still makes for a stunning trailing houseplant.
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Rhipsalis Heteroclada thrives in medium light conditions. It prefers bright, indirect sunlight, so placing it near a window with a sheer curtain would be ideal. Direct sunlight can be too harsh and may damage the delicate stems.
💧💧▫️ (Medium)
This jungle cactus likes to be kept moist but not waterlogged. Water it when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in the winter months to prevent root rot.
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
Rhipsalis prefers average room temperatures between 18°C to 24°C. It can tolerate a range down to about 15°C but should be protected from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
💦💦▫️ (Moderate)
As a tropical plant, it enjoys a bit of humidity. If your home is on the dry side, consider using a humidity tray or a room humidifier to keep it happy, especially during dry winter months.
Repot your Rhipsalis every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally formulated for cacti and succulents, to ensure proper drainage and prevent root rot.
This plant is non-toxic and safe for pets. A great choice for pet owners who want to add a bit of greenery without worrying about their furry friends.
This plant is perfect for high shelves or hanging baskets where its trailing vines can drape beautifully. Ideal locations include well-lit bathrooms, kitchens, or living rooms where it can enjoy indirect sunlight.
The Rhipsalis is known for its air purifying qualities. It can help remove pollutants from indoor air, making it a healthy addition to your home or office environment.
Though flowering is rare indoors, the Rhipsalis Heteroclada still offers stunning greenery with its cascading vines and unique texture, adding a touch of the tropics to any space.

Fantastic service as always from Pam, Craig and the Team! Added bonus to get to meet Angus the new puppy!
Great website and very communicative with delivery updates. Minor issue with the interface for the aroid plants bundle: I was unable to select both the base and extension pole, so had to add the latter separately.
Really lovely selection of plants photographed beautifully. I had a question before placing my order and used the online contact form. Craig couldn’t have been more helpful with a super quick response which resolved my query completely. My order was delivered on time and the plants and accessories were wrapped so beautifully with thoughtful little extras which made opening everything really special. I even got a ‘wee gift’ with my order and although I was aware from the website that one would be included with my order, it was just another example of a company who really wants to connect with the customers, even though there must be a financial commitment. I found the website full of useful articles and being able to access specific care guides for my purchases has been extremely useful.
The plants are well taken care of and from the few times I’ve bought from them never had any issues with the plants. 10/10 care would definitely recommend buying either only or in person.
