Natural lava rock is a multifunctional material, which can be used as an efficient drainage layer or even the sole substrate in terrariums, especially for plants that thrive with lower nutrient levels. It’s not only beneficial for terrariums but also an outstanding drainage material for vivarium and terrariums which allows to maintain a balanced ecosystem.

Beyond physical support for moss or plants, the lava stones play a significant role in biological filtration. Its expansive surface area provides a habitat for beneficial bacteria maintaining a healthy environment in your ecosystem.

Lava rock can be used in vivariums and terrariums for microlandscaping. Plant small ferns, moss and other plants into natural holes (or drilled) to get a very natural effect. The lava rock pores will absorb water and keep plants and moss hydrated.

You can use small pieces or glue a few together to create bigger rocks.

    Benefits of lava rocks:

    • lava stones are natural and eco-friendly alternatives to polystyrene for creating landscapes in your terrarium, vivarium and mossarium
    • lava rocks create a perfect environment to grow moss and create moss walls and grottos in your terrariums
    • can be used to grow bonsai
    • the amazing substrate to grow your favourite lithophyte (plants which grow in or on rocks instead of soil) like ferns, orchids, schefflera!
    • can be used as a part of growing medium of aroids like monster, syngonium or philodendron

Please note, that as a natural product, our lava rocks vary in shape and size, ensuring each piece is unique. Smaller pieces can be glued together to make bigger rocks if necessary.
