This low-growing alien-like compact star is a unique cultivar of the Cryptanthus bromeliad species. Wavy-edged leaves grow from a central rosette at ground level without a visible stem. The plant is also called Earth Star and Fishstar. Occasionally the Cryptanthus may produce cream-coloured flowers.
