Tradescantia Purple Heart Variegata
Tradescantia Purple Heart Variegata, botanically known as Tradescantia pallida ‘Purpurea Variegata’, is loved for its long, pointed leaves patterned with purple, pink, cream and green stripes.
Its stems grow quickly and naturally trail over the edge of the pot. The plant can also be trimmed regularly to create a fuller and more compact shape. Cuttings root easily, making it a rewarding plant to propagate and share.
The colour and pattern of every plant will vary naturally. Brighter light generally encourages stronger purple and pink colouring, while growth in darker positions may become greener.
Short care guide
Light: Provide plenty of bright light to maintain strong colouring. Gentle morning or evening sun is beneficial, but introduce direct sunlight gradually.
Water: Allow the upper layer of potting mix to dry before watering. Avoid leaving the plant sitting in water.
Humidity: Comfortable in normal household humidity.
Temperature: Keep warm and protect from cold draughts and very low temperatures.
Potting mix: Use a loose, free-draining houseplant potting mix.
Pruning: Trim long or bare stems regularly to encourage fuller growth. The cuttings can be rooted in water or directly in potting mix.
