Description

Care Guide:

  • Light: Heather prefers full sun to partial shade. Place it in a sunny spot for the best colour and growth.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells, but ensure it’s well-draining. Heather doesn’t like waterlogged roots.
  • Soil: Heather thrives in acidic, well-drained soil. You can mix in some ericaceous compost to improve soil acidity.
  • Temperature: Heather is hardy and can withstand cold UK winters, so it’s perfectly suited to being outdoors year-round.
  • Feeding: Apply a slow-release, ericaceous fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and vibrant flowers.
  • Companion Planting: Heather can be planted with moss to create a stunning natural display. The combination of Heather’s vibrant blooms and moss’s lush greenery offers a unique texture and depth to any planting arrangement.

Troubleshooting:

  • Heather turning brown/yellow: This can be caused by several factors:
    • Overwatering or poor drainage: Heather dislikes waterlogged soil. Ensure the plant’s pot or garden bed has adequate drainage. If the roots are too wet, the plant may turn brown or yellow.
    • Underwatering: While Heather is hardy, it doesn’t tolerate being too dry. Regular watering is key, especially in dry periods.
    • Soil pH imbalance: Heather prefers acidic soil. If the soil becomes too alkaline, it may lead to yellowing leaves. Use an ericaceous compost or fertiliser to maintain the right pH.
    • Lack of sunlight: Heather thrives in full sun. If placed in too much shade, it may lose its vibrant colours and start turning yellow.

By following these care tips and addressing any issues promptly, your Heather will stay healthy and vibrant, bringing beautiful colour to your home or garden throughout the year! Pairing it with moss creates a natural and striking display that’s sure to enhance any space.
