Calathea Network is a beautiful variety of Calathea houseplants known for its stunning foliage. The leaves are green with a network of dark green stripes which looks like a network, hence the name.
One of the most striking features of the Calathea Network also known as a prayer plant is its ability to move its leaves in response to changes in light and temperature. The leaves will fold up and down as the light changes throughout the day like praying hands.
Calathea Network has air-purifying qualities, making it a healthy choice for any home workspace environment. This plant has been known to remove harmful toxins from the air, helping to create a cleaner, fresher space. This beautiful plant is also pet friendly!
Calathea Network Care Guide
Light:
Calathea Network thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves, causing them to fade or develop brown patches.
Watering:
Water when 50-75% of the soil dries out. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use room temperature, filtered, or distilled water to avoid leaf spotting from mineral build-up.
Humidity:
Calathea Network loves high humidity, ideally 60% or above. You can mist the plant regularly or place it near a humidifier. Grouping plants together also helps raise humidity levels.
Temperature:
Maintain a temperature between 18-24°C. Keep it away from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix. Highland Moss’s premium Calathea & Maranta potting mix is ideal, as it provides the right balance of moisture retention and aeration.
Fertilizer:
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid fertilizing during the winter months.
Repotting:
Repot every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound, in a slightly larger pot with fresh soil.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- Yellowing Leaves:
Caused by overwatering or poor drainage. Ensure the soil isn’t waterlogged and adjust your watering routine if needed. Make sure the pot has adequate drainage. - Crispy Leaf Edges or Brown Tips:
Usually a sign of low humidity or using water with too many minerals. Increase humidity levels and use filtered or distilled water. - Leaf Curling:
This can be due to underwatering, low humidity, or too much direct sunlight. Increase watering, boost humidity, or move the plant to a spot with indirect light. - Pale Leaves:
This might indicate too much light. Move the plant to a spot with filtered light and away from direct sun exposure. - Pests:
Calatheas can attract spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Regularly inspect the leaves and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
