The Alocasia is a beautiful houseplant with dark green. This native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia plant is also known as the Green Velvet Alocasia, New Guinea Shield and Elephant Ear plant.
Key Features:
- Distinctive Foliage: Deep green, large leaves with brown-purple underneath.
- Moderate Size: Typically reaching over 1,5 meters in height, this plant is ideal for medium and large-sized indoor spaces.
- Air-Purifying Qualities: Like many houseplants, the Alocasia contributes to a healthier indoor environment. The plant filters the air from toxins, promoting cleaner and fresher air in your home and workplace.
Due to size, the plant is available only for collection from our shop, height +/-110cm.
It is important to note that the Alocasia may go into dormancy during the winter months. During this time, the plant may lose some leaves or slow its growth. This is a natural process for many tropical plants, and it is important to continue caring for the plant even while it is dormant.
Alocasia requires bright, indirect light and well-draining soil that is kept consistently moist during summer. During winter wait until the soil dries out between watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot and kill the plant as a result. Additionally, the plant benefits from regular fertilization during the growing season.
As the Alocasia is a larger plant with bigger leaves, it is possible that there may be some cosmetic damage to the leaves. This is a common occurrence during the transport and handling of the plant. However, this does not affect the health of the plant.
Not Pet Friendly
- How should I water my Alocasia during different seasons?
- During summer, keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. In winter, allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Adjust frequency based on humidity and temperature in your home.
- What are the best lighting conditions for the Alocasia?
- This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. A north or east-facing window is ideal.
- Is the Alocasia suitable for homes with pets?
- No, the Alocasia is not pet-friendly. It can be toxic if ingested, so it’s best kept out of reach of curious pets.
☀️ Light
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Alocasia Regal Shields thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. A spot near a window with a sheer curtain would be ideal to filter the intensity of direct sun.
💧 Water
💧💧▫️ (Medium)
Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce watering in winter, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Be cautious of overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
🌡️ Temperature

Very happy with the product and the service, thanks 😊
Thank you so much for holding back the delivery due to it clashing with the funeral of my dear mother in law, it was truly appreciated. My wife was also taken aback by your thoughtfulness by including a lovely bouquet of dried flowers and card with kind words. The flowers will always remind us of Elaine and sit pride of place on the sideboard in our dining room. You are truthfully some of the very best people we have dealt with, online and on the phone.
Amazing, personalised customer service! Always very friendly, approachable and dedicated. Thank you!
