They are small herbaceous plants with straplike leaves, and bell-shaped flowers that come in shades of purple, pink or white. They are small plants and make great choices for indoor gardens, rock gardens and are suitable for planting in terrariums too.

Ledebouria species are known for their tolerance of low light levels and dry conditions, making them well-suited to life as houseplants. They are also popular as drought-tolerant garden plants in areas with dry summers. Some species of Ledebouria, especially L. socialis, are well-regarded for their attractive patterned leaves, which can be variegated or mottled with silver, gray or green.

Caring for Ledebouria is easy as long as they receive enough light and do not get waterlogged. It is best to let the soil dry out a bit before watering. They are relatively tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and are able to tolerate temperatures as low as 4°C and as high as 32°C.
