Amblyseius andersoni Sachets – Natural Red Spider Mite Control

Prevent spider mite outbreaks before they start – a slow-release, chemical-free solution ideal for houseplants, greenhouses, and conservatories.

Our Amblyseius andersoni Sachets offer safe, long-lasting protection against red spider mites and a variety of other microscopic plant pests. These sachets contain a breeding colony of predatory mites that emerge slowly over 4–6 weeks, providing continuous, preventative protection and stopping infestations before they take hold.

🕷️ What Are Red Spider Mites & Why Prevent Them?

Red spider mites (Tetranychus spp., Panonychus spp.) are tiny sap-feeding pests that thrive in warm, dry environments. They damage plants by feeding on the undersides of leaves, causing yellow speckling, leaf curling, and eventual leaf drop. They are hard to eliminate once established, which is why prevention is key.

How Amblyseius andersoni Work

Amblyseius andersoni mites are widely used in commercial horticulture and are now available for home growers. They are natural predators of:

  • Red spider mites (Tetranychus & Panonychus species)

  • Rust mites, Fuchsia gall mites, Pear blister mites, Boxus mites

  • Thrips and other soft-bodied pests

These mites:

  • Feed on pest eggs, larvae, and adults

  • Survive in temperatures from 6°C to 40°C, ideal for early-season use

  • Tolerate lower humidity better than other predator mites

  • Feed on pollen and spores when pest levels are low

  • Can be used indoors all year round or outdoors from late February

🛑 Best for Prevention or Low-Level Infestations

Amblyseius andersoni is primarily used to prevent spider mite infestations or as an early-season control rather than a treatment for heavy infestations. They are especially useful as mites come out of hibernation in early spring.

If you’re dealing with an existing, large infestation, we recommend using Phytoseiulus persimilis first to knock down numbers, then following up with A. andersoni sachets to maintain control.

🌿 Why Choose Amblyseius andersoni Sachets?

  • 4–6 weeks of slow-release control

  • Works preventatively or in low-mite conditions

  • Low maintenance – simply insert into the soil or hang from foliage

  • Safe for people, pets, pollinators, and beneficial insects

  • Widely used in commercial glasshouses

  • Effective across multiple mite species

  • Survives without prey by feeding on pollen

Mite colour may vary depending on diet, and they are not usually visible to the naked eye.

📦 How to Use

  • Use immediately upon arrival – sachets are not suitable for storage

  • Apply 1 sachet per plant for prevention

  • Apply multiple sachets per plant for larger specimens or heavier pressure

  • Replace every 4–6 weeks for continuous protection

  • Avoid chemical sprays before and during use – these may harm the predators

🌡️ Conditions for Success

  • Temperature range: 6°C to 40°C

  • Humidity: Performs well even in lower humidity

  • Suitable environments: Houseplants, greenhouses, conservatories, and outdoor use from late winter

How should I apply these sachets to my houseplants for effective spider mite prevention?
Simply hang one sachet per plant from the foliage or insert it into the soil. For larger plants or those under heavier pest pressure, multiple sachets may be required. Replace every 4–6 weeks to ensure continuous protection.
Are these sachets safe to use around children and pets?
Yes, the sachets are completely safe for use around people, pets, pollinators, and beneficial insects. They provide a non-toxic, sustainable method of pest control without the need for chemical sprays.
Can I store the sachets for later use if I don’t need them all at once?
No, the sachets should be used immediately upon arrival as they are not suitable for storage. This ensures the predatory mites are active and effective for optimal pest control.
