Beautiful Stephania Erecta in a terracotta pot with a saucer.

Please remember that the plant is living and changing all the time. We always provide healthy and the best quality plants but they may be in different stages of living and growing. During the winter plant when the plant goes into dormancy you may receive the plant without leaves.

How to look after Stephania

The plant goes into dormancy once a year around winter time, when leaves start turning yellow you can decrease watering. When the plant won’t have any leaves left move it into a darker and colder spot.

After the dormancy ”wakes up” the plant: soaks the caudex in lukewarm water for 24-48h, then move into the soil.

Light

Caudex like this plant can get sunburnt, so please keep it somewhere sunny but never in direct full sunlight.

Water

It is easy to overwater this plant, so let the soil almost completely dry out before watering. In Winter the plant will enter dormancy so resist watering it more than once a month!

Humidity

Give the plant an occasional mist and try to keep humidity over 60%.

The plant is toxic to pets.

How should I care for the plant during its dormancy period in winter?
During dormancy, reduce watering to once a month and move the plant to a cooler, darker spot. Avoid fertilising until it shows signs of new growth in spring.
Can the Stephania Erecta be placed in direct sunlight?
It’s best to keep the plant in a sunny spot but protected from direct sunlight, as the caudex can get sunburnt. Ideal lighting is bright, indirect sunlight.
Is the Stephania Erecta suitable for beginners, and what should I be cautious about?
This plant is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for beginners. However, be cautious of overwatering and ensure the plant is in a location with over 60% humidity. Also, note that it is toxic to pets.

  • Authentic Photos of Our Plants: We take every photo you see, showcasing the actual plants we offer. Each plant is selected randomly unless otherwise stated, adding a touch of surprise to your order.
  • Natural Variations Make Each Plant Unique: No two plants are the same. Differences in size, leaf count, and minor cosmetic imperfections are part of their charm and individuality, making your plant truly one of a kind.
  • Healthy Plants, Always: While we can’t guarantee an exact match to the photos, we promise to send only happy, healthy plants that are well-cared for and ready to thrive in your space.
  • Let Your Plant Settle: Allow your new plant to adjust to its surroundings for 1–2 weeks before repotting, propagating, or making any major changes. This settling-in period reduces stress and helps your plant flourish.
  • Shipped-in Trusted Potting Mix: Our plants are delivered in a standard grower’s potting mix. When you’re ready to repot, choose from our premium-quality mixes designed specifically for aroids, succulents, and terrariums, available in our shop.
  • Expert Guidance on Repotting: I’m unsure if it’s time to repot. Check out our article, When to Repot Your Plant, for expert advice on keeping your plant healthy and happy.

Great website and very communicative with delivery updates. Minor issue with the interface for the aroid plants bundle: I was unable to select both the base and extension pole, so had to add the latter separately.

Really lovely selection of plants photographed beautifully. I had a question before placing my order and used the online contact form. Craig couldn’t have been more helpful with a super quick response which resolved my query completely. My order was delivered on time and the plants and accessories were wrapped so beautifully with thoughtful little extras which made opening everything really special. I even got a ‘wee gift’ with my order and although I was aware from the website that one would be included with my order, it was just another example of a company who really wants to connect with the customers, even though there must be a financial commitment. I found the website full of useful articles and being able to access specific care guides for my purchases has been extremely useful.

The plants are well taken care of and from the few times I’ve bought from them never had any issues with the plants. 10/10 care would definitely recommend buying either only or in person.
