PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PLANT LOOKS LIKE IN THE FIRST 3 PICTURES. The last picture shows what the plant will look like soon 🙂
Please remember that the plant is living and changing all the time. We always provide healthy and the best quality plants but they may be in different stages of living and growing. During the winter plant when the plant goes into dormancy, you may receive the plant without leaves.
How to look after Stephania
The plant goes into dormancy once a year around winter time, when leaves start turning yellow you can decrease watering. When the plant won’t have any leaves left move it into a darker and colder spot.
After the dormancy ”wakes up” the plant: soaks the caudex in lukewarm water for 24-48h, then move into the soil.
Light
Caudex like this plant can get sunburnt, so please keep it somewhere sunny but never in direct full sunlight.
Water
It is easy to overwater this plant, so let the soil almost completely dry out before watering. In Winter the plant will enter dormancy so resist watering it more than once a month!
Humidity
Give the plant an occasional mist and try to keep humidity over 60%.
The plant is toxic to pets.

☀️ Light
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Stephania Erecta thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Position it where the sun’s rays won’t directly hit the foliage to prevent sunburn. A spot near a window with a sheer curtain would be ideal.
💧 Water
💧▫️▫️ (Low)
Water sparingly, allowing the soil to nearly dry out between waterings. In winter, during dormancy, reduce watering to once a month or less. Always check the topsoil for dryness before watering again.
🌡️ Temperature
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
Stephania Erecta prefers average room temperatures from 18°C to 24°C. Avoid sudden temperature changes and keep away from draughts and heating sources for optimal growth.
💦 Humidity
💦💦▫️ (Moderate)
This plant enjoys a bit of humidity. Aim to maintain indoor humidity levels above 60%. Occasional misting or a humidity tray can help meet these needs.
🪴 Repotting
Repotting is typically needed every couple of years to refresh the soil. Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent waterlogging risks. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the previous one as a too-large pot can lead to excess moisture retention in the soil.
🐾 Pet Friendliness
Please note, the Stephania Erecta is toxic to pets. Keep it out of reach of curious cats and dogs to avoid any potential mishaps.
✅🪴 Recommended Locations at Home
This stunning plant makes a great addition to areas like living rooms or studies where its unique appearance can be fully appreciated. Just ensure it’s placed in proper lighting conditions as per the guide above.
🌬️🪴 Air Purifying
While Stephania Erecta is not specifically known for its air-purifying abilities, like many plants, it contributes to a reduction in indoor air pollutants through its natural processes.
✨ Other Plant Features
The Stephania Erecta is particularly noted for its striking caudex (bulbous stem), making it a fascinating display piece. As it grows, watch its vine-like leaves emerge, adding a touch of the tropics to your home décor.
