The Umbrella Plant, also known as Schefflera arboricola, is an easy-to-care houseplant which naturally grows in Taiwan. The plant can be grown as an epiphyte or lithophyte. The display on the lava rock sounded by our live sphagnum moss is very unusual and will make an amazing gift for a plant lover or yourself 😉

Epiphyte are plants that grow on another plant and use it as a host to receive nutrients and moisture.

Lithophyte are plants that grow on rocks, cliff faces and edges of stone formations and do not need soil to thrive.

The plant will enjoy a bright spots but will be also fine in half-shadow. Water regularly but do not let the roots sit in water for too long.

You can trim stems and roots if grow too long to maintain the bonsai look.

This plant is toxic if eaten by pets.

How often should I water my Schefflera Arboricola growing on lava rock?: Water the plant regularly to keep the moss moist, but ensure it’s not soggy. Allow the rock to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Generally, once a week should suffice, adjusting frequency based on humidity and temperature.
Can this plant be placed in a terrarium?: While it’s an attractive idea, this Schefflera Arboricola is not suitable for terrariums due to its size and growth habit. It thrives best in open air with space to grow, especially since it’s mounted on a lava rock which needs some dry periods.
Is the Schefflera Arboricola suitable for beginners?: Yes, this plant is considered easy to care for, making it a great choice for beginners. Just provide it with medium light, regular watering, and occasional trimming to maintain its bonsai appearance.

💧💧▫️ (Moderate) – Schefflera Arboricola thrives in moderate humidity. Regular misting helps to maintain adequate humidity levels, especially during dry winter months.

🪴 Repotting

No need for traditional repotting due to its unique lava rock base. However, ensure to top up or replace the sphagnum moss as needed to support moisture and nutrient retention.

🐾 Pet Friendliness

This plant is toxic if ingested by pets. Keep it out of reach of curious cats and dogs to prevent any accidental nibbling.
