To truly understand carnivorous plants, it’s important to explore their natural habitat. These plants have existed for around 40 million years and are found on every continent except Antarctica. They thrive in environments with high light and moisture levels, such as nutrient-poor swamps and waterlogged areas.
Their unusual adaptations have evolved due to this lack of soil nutrients. Carnivorous plants have developed traps to capture prey, ensuring they receive essential nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus, which are vital for photosynthesis and growth.
There are about 600 known species of carnivorous plants, each with specialized mechanisms for attracting and capturing prey. They often use bright colors, distinctive smells, and sticky surfaces to lure insects. Their trapping strategies include:

Pet Friendly
Please note due to nature of plants every single one is different and unique. Some of plants may be blooming depending on the season and the individual plant.
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Butterwort thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Position it where it can bask in plenty of light without being exposed to harsh direct sun, which could damage the leaves.
💧💧▫️ (Medium)
Keep the soil consistently moist by using distilled or rainwater, as tap water may contain minerals that can build up and harm the plant. Avoid letting the soil become waterlogged or dry out completely.
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)
The ideal temperature for your Butterwort ranges from 18°C to 24°C. It can tolerate mild fluctuations but avoid placing it near draughty windows or heat sources.
💦💦▫️ (Moderate)
This plant likes a bit of humidity but doesn’t require the high levels that some tropical plants might. A typical home environment usually suffices, but a pebble tray or occasional misting can help in drier conditions.
Repot your Butterwort every couple of years or when you see that it has outgrown its pot. Use a well-draining, nutrient-poor soil mix to mimic its natural habitat and allow for proper root growth and health.
This plant is pet-friendly, posing no harm if accidentally nibbled by a curious cat or dog. However, it’s always best to keep plants out of pets’ reach to avoid any possible digestive upset.
Place your Butterwort in areas like well-lit kitchens, living rooms, or offices where its natural pest control benefits can be maximized. Just ensure it’s not in direct sunlight or in overly drafty spots.
While primarily known for its insect-trapping abilities, Butterwort does not significantly contribute to air purification.
Aside from its utility in controlling fungus gnats, Butterwort features a unique and exotic appearance that adds a touch of intrigue to any indoor garden. Its sticky leaves which trap insects are not only functional but also quite the conversation starter!

Annie
A little smaller than expected for the pot size but seems happy and healthy enough. It’s been added to my previous two (larger Guatamala & Anna) into an carnivorous plant pot, topped with sphagnum. It’s doing a great job on the fungus gnats! Hopefully this littlest Guatemala (left) will grow up to be as big as its pot-mate which was purchased earlier in the year.

The plants are well taken care of and from the few times I’ve bought from them never had any issues with the plants. 10/10 care would definitely recommend buying either only or in person.
Really excellent service. I ordered Dicranum that was delivered in great and 24 hours. Will be using again!
No issues.
