If you’re looking to bring a tropical rainforest vibe into your home, none do it better than Philodendrons. This striking genus of plant belongs to the Araceae (Arum) family and with an estimated 900 species it is the second-largest species in the family.
Philodendrons are native to the Americas and found stretching across the continent from north to south. They are almost always found in high-humidity environments, along rivers, in swamps and of course, in their most comfortable environment, tropical rainforests. The species consists of two main types, non-trailing and vining plants which are both popular amongst houseplant lovers for the abundant feeling they create.
In nature, they can be found climbing rocks and trees, producing larger leaves as they climb. They are able to do so by clinging using their aerial roots. This easy-to-care plant is a good choice for a plant beginner.
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium) – Your Philodendron Cobra thrives in medium light conditions. It enjoys bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate lower light levels, making it perfect for spots that don’t get constant direct sun. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch its beautiful leaves.
💧💧▫️ (Medium) – This plant likes its soil to be kept moist but not waterlogged. Water it when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in the winter months to prevent overwatering.
🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average) – Philodendron Cobra enjoys average room temperatures between 18°C to 24°C. It can tolerate a bit cooler or warmer climates, but sudden temperature changes should be avoided.
💦💦💦 (High) – Being a tropical plant, it loves high humidity. Regular misting, a pebble tray, or a humidifier can help meet its humidity needs, especially during dry winter months.
Repot your Philodendron every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally rich in organic matter. If climbing or trailing is desired, consider adding a moss pole to support its growth.
Take care as Philodendrons can be toxic to pets if ingested. Keep this plant out of reach from your furry friends to avoid any mishaps.
This plant is perfect for living rooms, home offices, or any space that receives filtered light. It makes an excellent hanging plant, creating a dramatic display as it grows.
Philodendron Cobra is known for its air-purifying qualities, helping to filter out indoor pollutants and improve air quality within your home.
Aside from its stunning variegation, this Philodendron is an easy-care plant that’s perfect for beginners. It’s also known for its ability to adapt to various indoor environments, making it a versatile choice for any indoor space.
