  • Growth Habit: Produces delicate purple flowers in the right conditions.

Important

It’s important to note that when caring for your Butterworth plant, you should only use distilled or rainwater if your tap water is full of chemicals. This is because the plant is sensitive to chemicals and minerals, which can harm its delicate root system.

Please not add any plant food or fertilizers to your Pinguicula. The plant is adapted to nutrient-poor environments, and adding plant food can actually harm the plant. Instead, let your Pinguicula catch its own food by trapping insects with its sticky leaves or take energy from the sun like other plants.

When repotting your Pinguicula, it’s important not to use regular plant soil as it may be too rich for the plant. Instead, use a special carnivorous plant soil mix that is free of nutrients and provides the proper drainage the Pinguicula needs.

As your Pinguicula grows, you may notice that the bottom leaves turn brown and die. This is a natural part of the plant’s life cycle, and you shouldn’t worry about it. Simply remove the dead leaves to keep your plant looking healthy and happy.

How often should I water my Butterwort, and what type of water is best?
Keep the soil consistently damp without letting it dry out completely. Use only distilled or rainwater, as tap water can contain minerals and chemicals that may harm the plant.
Can the Butterwort be placed in a terrarium?
Yes, this plant is ideal for terrariums due to its preference for bright, indirect light and high humidity environments, which mimic its natural habitat.
Is the Butterwort suitable for beginners, and what should I avoid doing?
This plant is perfect for beginners as it requires minimal care beyond proper watering and light. Avoid using tap water and adding fertiliser or plant food, as these can damage its delicate system.
