Euphorbia has to be one of the most weirdly interesting species of plants. The family Euphorbiaceae contains around 2000 different species, almost half of which are categorised as succulents. Not many other families of plants have such a wide and eclectic range of species within them. Species can range from annual to perennial, herbaceous shrubs to full-grown trees, armed with vicious spikes to growing soft and velvety foliage. They really do have something for everyone, but the thing that brings them all together as one happy family is the milky white latex sap they produce to heal their wounds and protect them from herbivores.

This Euphorbia is relatively fast-growing compared to many other cacti and succulents, making it an excellent choice if you’re looking for a plant that shows noticeable growth. With proper care, it can grow up to 6 feet tall, creating a bold statement in your space. It’s incredibly hardy, low-maintenance, and thrives with minimal attention, making it ideal for beginners who want an impressive, easy-to-care-for plant.

Whether placed in a bright indoor spot or a sunny outdoor location, the ghost cactus brings a touch of the exotic while remaining simple to grow and enjoy.

How often should I water my Euphorbia Ingens Variegata?
This cactus thrives on minimal water. During the growing season (spring and summer), water it once every two weeks, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce watering to once a month.
Can the Euphorbia Ingens Variegata be placed outdoors in the UK?
Yes, it can be placed outdoors during warmer months. However, it should be in a spot that receives full to medium light and protected from frost. Bring it indoors in colder seasons to avoid damage from low temperatures.
Is this plant suitable for beginners?
Absolutely! The Euphorbia Ingens Variegata is exceptionally hardy and low-maintenance, making it perfect for beginners. It requires minimal attention and is fast-growing, offering satisfying progress and easy care.

☀️ Light

☀️☀️☀️ (High)

The Euphorbia Ingens Variegata Cactus thrives in bright, direct light. Place it near a south-facing window where it can soak up the sunshine. If positioned indoors, ensure it gets at least 5-6 hours of sunlight daily.

💧 Water

💧▫️▫️ (Low)

This cactus prefers a ‘less is more’ approach to watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In the warmer months, water every 2-3 weeks and reduce to once a month or less during winter.

🌡️ Temperature

🌡️🌡️▫️ (Average)

Euphorbia Ingens Variegata enjoys average room temperatures from 15°C to 25°C. Avoid sudden temperature drops and cold drafts, which can stress the plant.

💦 Humidity

💦▫️▫️ (Low)

This plant is not demanding about humidity levels. Typical indoor humidity is sufficient as it is naturally adapted to drier conditions.

🪴 Repotting

Repot your Euphorbia every 2-3 years or when it outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix to ensure proper drainage and prevent root rot.

🐾 Pet Friendliness

Be cautious as Euphorbia produces a milky sap that can be irritating to the skin and toxic if ingested. It’s best to keep this plant out of reach of pets and children.

🏠 Recommended locations at home

Perfect for sunny spots like south-facing windows, sunrooms, or conservatories. Its striking appearance makes it a great focal point in living rooms or offices with enough light.

🌿 Air Purifying

This plant is not specifically known for air-purifying properties, but it adds a refreshing green touch and can enhance the aesthetic of your space.

✨ Other Plant Features
