The Cyclamen, also known as Persian Violet or Sowbread, is a stunning tuberous perennial admired for its vibrant, butterfly-like blooms and heart-shaped leaves with silvery patterns. While it’s often treated as an annual indoors, in the right conditions, it can re-bloom year after year, adding charm and elegance to your space during cooler months. Perfect for brightening windowsills and tables or gifting to plant enthusiasts, the Cyclamen thrives with minimal care.

Important Note: Cyclamen is not pet-friendly and should be kept out of reach of cats and dogs due to its toxicity if ingested.

Care Guide

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but avoids direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch.

Watering: Water at the base when the top inch of soil feels dry, ensuring good drainage to avoid soggy roots.

Humidity: It prefers cool, humid environments. To maintain moisture, use a pebble tray or stay away from heaters.

Temperature: Enjoys cooler temperatures of 10–18°C (50–65°F) and should be kept away from drafts or heating vents.

Feeding: Feed every two weeks during the blooming period with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer. Stop feeding during dormancy.

Dormancy: Cyclamen may lose its leaves after flowering as it enters dormancy. Reduce watering, keep the tuber cool, dry, and resume care when new growth appears.

A perfect seasonal favourite, the Cyclamen brings vibrant colour and timeless beauty to any home, making it an excellent choice for new and experienced plant lovers.

How should I water my Cyclamen to ensure it stays healthy?
Water your Cyclamen at the base when the top inch of soil feels dry, avoiding the leaves to prevent waterlogging and potential rot. Ensure the pot has good drainage to keep the roots healthy.
Can I keep my Cyclamen in a room with central heating during winter?
It is best to place your Cyclamen away from direct heat sources like radiators or heating vents, as it prefers cooler temperatures between 10–18°C. Consider using a pebble tray to increase humidity around the plant.
What should I do when my Cyclamen goes dormant?
During dormancy, reduce watering and keep the tuber cool and dry. Resume regular care when you notice new growth, typically as the cooler months approach.

Welcome to your simple and straightforward guide to caring for the Cyclamen Persian Violet. Let’s dive into making your vibrant new houseplant thrive!

☀️ Light

☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)

Your Cyclamen prefers bright, indirect light. It’s perfect for a spot that’s shielded from direct sunlight, which can scorch its beautiful leaves.

💧 Water

💧💧▫️ (Medium)

Water your Cyclamen when the top inch of soil feels dry. Remember to water at the base to avoid wetting the leaves and ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent soggy roots.

🌡️ Temperature

🌡️▫️▫️ (Cool)

Cyclamen thrives in cooler environments, ideally between 10–18°C. Keep it away from drafts and heating vents to maintain a consistent cool temperature.

💦 Humidity

💦💦▫️ (Moderate)

This plant loves a bit of humidity but nothing too extreme. A pebble tray or a light misting can help maintain the right moisture level, especially away from dry heat sources.

🪴 Repotting

Repot your Cyclamen only when it outgrows its current pot, typically every couple of years. Use a potting mix with good drainage, ideally designed for indoor plants.

🐾 Pet Friendliness

Important: Cyclamen is not safe for pets. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs as it can be toxic if ingested.

🏠 Recommended Locations at Home

This plant makes a stunning addition to cooler parts of your home such as north-facing windowsills, living rooms, or bedrooms where direct sunlight doesn’t reach.
