Light:
Calathea thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves, causing them to fade or develop brown patches.
Watering:
Water when 50-75% of the soil dries out. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use room temperature, filtered, or distilled water to avoid leaf spotting from mineral build-up.
Humidity:
Calathea loves high humidity, ideally 60% or above. You can mist the plant regularly or place it near a humidifier. Grouping plants together also helps raise humidity levels.
Temperature:
Maintain a temperature between 18-24°C. Keep it away from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix. Highland Moss’s premium Calathea & Maranta potting mix is ideal, as it provides the right balance of moisture retention and aeration.
Fertilizer:
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Avoid fertilizing during the winter months.
Repotting:
Repot every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound, in a slightly larger pot with fresh soil.
It should just take a few seconds but can take up to a minute to write your guide.
