It is important to note that the Alocasia may go into dormancy during the winter months. During this time, the plant may lose some leaves or slow its growth. This is a natural process for many tropical plants, and it is important to continue caring for the plant even while it is dormant.
Alocasia requires bright, indirect light and well-draining soil that is kept consistently moist during summer. During winter wait until the soil dries out between watering. Overwatering can lead to root rot and kill the plant as a result. Additionally, the plant benefits from regular fertilization during the growing season.
As the Alocasia is a larger plant with bigger leaves, it is possible that there may be some cosmetic damage to the leaves. This is a common occurrence during the transport and handling of the plant. However, this does not affect the health of the plant.
Not Pet Friendly
☀️☀️▫️ (Medium)
The Alocasia Regal Shields thrives in bright, indirect light. It’s best to place it near a window where the sunlight is filtered through a sheer curtain. Direct sunlight can scorch its magnificent leaves.
💧💧▫️ (Medium)
Keep the soil consistently moist during the summer months. In winter, allow the topsoil to dry out before watering again. Be cautious of overwatering as it may lead to root rot.
🌡️🌡️🌡️ (Warm)
Alocasia enjoys a warm environment typical of its native tropical habitat. Maintain indoor temperatures above 18°C to keep your plant happy and healthy.
💦💦💦 (High)
This plant loves high humidity. Regular misting, a pebble tray, or a humidifier can help meet its needs, especially during dry, winter months.
Consider repotting every 2 to 3 years or when it outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent water retention which could cause root issues.
This plant is not pet friendly. It’s best to keep it out of reach of curious pets to avoid any accidental ingestion, which can be harmful.
Ideal spots include bright bathrooms with a window, or any room with sheer curtains and stable warm conditions. Avoid direct sunlight locations.
The Alocasia Regal Shields is not only a stunning addition to your home but also purifies the air. It filters out common household toxins, promoting a healthier living environment.
The distinct large, velvety deep green leaves with a brown-purple underside make this Alocasia a decorative standout. It can occasionally shed leaves or appear to slow in growth during winter dormancy — a normal behavior for tropical plants.
