Description
Care Guide: Anacampseros Rufescens ‘Sunrise’ Succulent
Light:
- This succulent thrives in bright, indirect light but can handle some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon. More light will enhance its colourful hues, turning its leaves pink, purple, or orange. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering:
- Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as this plant is drought-tolerant. During the winter months, reduce watering even further, as the plant enters a dormant period. Overwatering can cause root rot.
Soil:
- Use well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix. You can improve drainage further by adding sand or perlite to the potting mix. Good drainage is essential to prevent waterlogged roots.
Temperature:
- Anacampseros Rufescens prefers warm temperatures between 15ยฐC and 29ยฐC. Protect it from freezing temperatures, as frost can damage the plant.
Humidity:
- This succulent does well in normal household humidity levels and doesnโt require any extra humidity. It prefers drier environments, which mimic its natural habitat.
Fertilising:
- Feed with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser once during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilising in winter, as the plant is dormant and wonโt actively take up nutrients.
Repotting:
- Repot every 2-3 years, or when the plant has outgrown its container. Use fresh succulent soil and choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent water buildup.
Propagation:
- The Anacampseros Rufescens ‘Sunrise’ can be easily propagated by separating offsets or from leaf cuttings. Simply place the offsets or cuttings in dry soil and wait a few days before watering.
Pests:
- Generally pest-free, but occasionally susceptible to mealybugs and aphids. If pests are spotted, treat the plant with insecticidal soap or wipe the leaves with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
Toxicity:
- Non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a safe choice for households with animals.
