Epiphyllum Anguliger Fishbone Zig Zag Cactus
Rated 5.00 out of 5£5.00 - £33.00£4.25 - £33.00The Fish Bone Cactus is not your regular cactus. Unlike most cacti that dwell in desert-like environments, this vivid trailing epiphyte (a plant that grows in or on the trunks and limbs of other plants and trees) is native to the tropical evergreen forests of Mexico.
Found only in these forests high above sea level in warm humid environments. The official name for this unusual cactus is Disocactus anguliger, some may still know it as Epiphyllum anguliger but after recent molecular research, the plant was reclassified into the cactus genus and family. It also goes by the common names Fish Bone Cactus, Zig Zag Cactus, and Orchid Cactus. The first two names do a good job of describing the rich green jagged tendrils that burst out of the centre of the plant and hang down towards the ground. But it has been given the name Orchid Cactus because of the stunningly beautiful flower display it can produce.
Often cactus flowers are very impressive, they take a long time to form and when they do they don’t disappoint and this cactus is no different. Producing a large vivid star-looking flower that blooms with bright neon pink on the outside and a pale creamy white in the centre, it is well worth a quick internet search if you haven’t seen them before. But like most cactus flowers this is a short-lived experience with the flowers lasting a day maybe two at best. You will also need to be patient as the Fish Bone Cactus won’t start producing flowers until it reaches at least three years old.
Overall this plant is perfect for those who may not have the environment to house a dessert-style cactus but still want to be part of the club. This very forgiving plant can tolerate lower light conditions and a touch of neglect making it a great choice for beginners or those who often forget to water their plants but still want a touch of green in their homes.

Aeschynanthus Twister Lipstick Plant 15cm pot
£32.00£27.20Aeschynanthus Rasta s a stunningly beautiful and unique plant. The leaves of the Aeschynanthus Rasta are thick and leathery, with a wavy edge that adds a sense of movement and dynamism to the overall display. The plant grows in a vine-like manner and at the end of each stem, a cluster of tubular, bright red flowers emerges, resembling a tube of lipstick. This native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia is also commonly referred to as a lipstick plant because of the shape of its flowers.
Aeschynanthus is a must-consider option if you are looking for your next trailing or hanging plant to brighten up your indoor space. These beautiful trailing epiphytes cascade out of their pots forming chainlink-like stems of bright glossy green foliage. If this plant only produced its foliage it would still be one of the best-looking houseplants around, but what sets this magical wonder apart from the rest is the incredible blooms of flowers, which is the reason it has been given the common name the lipstick plant. It produces clusters of vividly coloured red tuberous flowers that seemingly pop out of a deep maroon bud that gives it the appearance of a tube of lipstick.
This one-of-a-kind and easy-to-care-for evergreen belongs to the family Gesneriaceae which is made up of around 150 different species of tropical and sub-tropical plants, most of which originate from Southeast Asia. Like a lot of our favourite houseplants, this one is also found in humidity-rich jungle-like environments where they normally live as epiphytes, meaning they live by clinging to tree branches or tucked into crevices and cracks of rocks. In the wild, these marvellous plants can trail down in lengths of up to four to five feet and produce prolific displays of flowers that produce some of the best nectar that is irresistible to sunbirds.
