Drainage Layer
2 Drainage Layer
This is the base layer of the terrarium, it allows excess water to sit below the substrate and prevents plant roots from rotting. Our personal preference are Leca pebbles, as they are light and porous.
Sphagnum Moss Layer
3 Sphagnum Moss Layer
Make a terrarium Highland Moss style! We use our glorious sphagnum as a substrate blocker as opposed to something like mesh. Sphagnum is full of lovely nutrients and will act as a sponge for excess water, it can drip it down into the drainage layer or it can be a sponge for the soil to draw from if needed.
Maintenance Crew
7 Maintenance Crew
Add some movement to your terrarium with your very own living maintenance crew!
There are two types and both will live together in harmony:
Springtails – These are tiny white hexapods that are added in the soil layer. They aerate the soil and add nutrients too.
Isopods – These guys live on the surface level and they are fun to watch as they rummage around your terrarium. They eat mould and old decayed matter like leaves.
