The desert rose, Adenium obesum, is a shrubby succulent with glossy green leaves and red-pink flowers.
It is a poisonous* species of flowering plant belonging to the tribe Nerieae of the subfamily Apocynoideae of the dogbane family, Apocynaceae. It is native to the Sahel regions south of the Sahara, tropical and subtropical eastern and southern Africa and also the Arabian Peninsula.
*This plant is poisonous to humans (if consumed) but reportedly is not in fact toxic for pets such as cats, birds or dogs.
