Marimo Moss isn’t really a moss, it is a phenomenon of algae in a ball shape from the inside out! This naturally grows in freshwater lakes in Scotland, Estonia, Iceland, Japan and Australia.
There is a history of wonder and lore with Marimo Moss balls. The legend goes that two lovers who were forbidden together fell into a lake and their hearts turned into Marimo Moss! So now Marimo is said to bring your heart’s desire to both the giver and recipient of one.
They are fun to make, beautiful to look at and easy to maintain. We always keep a selection of our bio active terrariums for sale in our Aberdeen shop, and very soon our popular terrarium kits will make a return to our online shop.
This large, eco-glass container is the perfect vessel for creating your own mossarium or terrarium. The clear glass allows optimal light penetration and maintains a perfect level of humidity inside your mini ecosystem.

Moss must be the most sorely misunderstood plant out there. For so long we have been power blasting it off roofs or chemically massacring it from the lawn.
But why? Moss is incredible at cleaning the air, beautiful to look at and low maintenace.
This is why we have created our own range of special soil mixes. Each one is blended to give your plant the perfect drainage and nutrients as suited to its needs.
Ready to up your game even more? We also have a range of soil mix components plus springtails that will maintain your soil for you.
Join us in our Aberdeen shop for a repotting session or attend a wee workshop.
If you need some help repotting your plant, book in a repotting session where we will give your plant a health check, then repot it one of our premium soil mixes. If you order an accompanying moss pole, we will install it for you too!
