These jars are many decades old, they were handmade at the University of Aberdeen for their chemistry labs. We have been lucky enough to get our hands on a limited supply of them. Our Aberdeen customers have loved getting our unique terrariums over the last couple of months and we decided to make kits so everyone in the UK can be a mad scientist and create their own unique terrariums!
Each jar may be a little different, we have kept them authentic and have not removed any stickers or etched text on the bottles.
The one-bottle terrarium kit includes:
- Vintage lab bottle with original descriptions of chemicals x1
- Live Scottish moss selected from our fresh stock x1
- A vibrant fittonia plant randomly selected from our stock x1
- Our premium terrarium potting mix x1
- A bag of leca clay pebbles x1
- Beautifully illustrated care instructions by our awesome local artist, Hakuna Natasha x1
- Long terrarium tweezers x1
The two bottles terrarium kit includes a double portion of everything except you will receive a single set of tweezers
Components like: potting mix, clay pebbles and moss for two bottles set will be packed in one bag for each component, and when arrive please divide it into two equal portions.
How to make the terrarium:
- Open the bottle.
- Add about an inch/2.5cm of clay pebbles.
- Transfer soil from the bag to the bottle using tweezers or hands (should be about an inch/2.5cm again).
- Plant the moss on the top of the soil.
- Make a cutting of fittonia and transfer it to the bottle. The bottleneck is quite narrow so slowly push the plant through the neck with tweezers. Some plants may be bigger or smaller than others so please adjust them by removing any oversized leaves.
- Spray with water, the equivalent of half a teaspoon of water will be more than enough.
- Close the bottle with a glass stopper and follow care instructions to enjoy your terrarium.
- Enjoy your glorious new terrarium and watch it grow!
TIP: After making a cutting of your Fittonia for the terrarium, move the pot with the remaining rooted plant to a warm and bright spot to keep growing your plant as a nice bonus!
